New World supermarkets, “New World Elles Road” (in South City) and “New World Windsor”.
The North Invercargill “New World Windsor” store in particular has a fantastic range of vegan products. They have a great International section for Indian/Asian cooking, and stock Linda McCartney’s frozen vegetarian range of vegan sausage rolls, burgers etc :-)
The South Invercargill “New World Elles Road” store now has the full range of Angel Food vegan cheese! From the Mozzarella used by Hell Pizza, to new Cheddar, Parmesan, cheesy sauce perfect for macaroni or lasagne……wow! It’s getting easier and easier to be dairy free, to stand up for animals and have a good time without the dairy industry’s cruelty and pollution.
ALERT TO THE VEGANS OF NEW ZEALAND! Pak n Save and both of our New World supermarkets stock vegan chocolate afghan biscuits! Made by Baker Boys in the vegetarian capital Christchurch, they use certified sustainable palm oil, and taste AWESOME! 20 pack for just $6
We grabbed a photo with New World Windsor baker Dallas, whose partner happens to be vegan :-)
North Invercargill’s “New World Windsor”
You’ll find “Angel Food” vegan cheese and sour cream at New World Windsor, just past the dead fish and dairy milk. There is also a “Kingland” brand of vegan “soya cheese”, but it’s not as good as the New Zealand made Angel Food product.
Located at the bakery end of the display, “Angel Food” vegan Mozzarella, as used at Hell Pizza :-)
Angel Food Mozzarella is soft, moist, mild and grate-able. Made with sunflower seeds and pea protein, it melts just as you’d expect from “cheese” :-)
Angel Food’s vegan Sour Cream, and Cheesey Sauce – no cows hurt in the making :-) The Sour Cream and Cheesey Sauce are in the standard “dairy” section, the north west corner of the supermarket.
As first spotted by Corinne, it’s great to see more and more animal friendly dairy free products hit the Invercargill market.
Sour Cream, perfect for making nachos! Try our great nacho recipe, with salsa chips and TVP.
New World Windsor also has the BEST range of vegan icecream in Invercargill! They even stock “Nice Cream” made with coconut cream :-) You can also get the product in smaller $4 treat sizes across the road, at “ComplEat Wellness” healthfood store.
Along the bottom, “Lite Licks” Hokey Pokey, Vanilla and Chocolate soy icecream. Sanitarium’s imported Australian “So Good” Chocolate and Vanilla soy icecream.
Our recommendation- try the coconut based “Nice Cream”, or “So Good”‘s fantastic vanilla. “Lite Licks” is ok, but not as good as the other brands. Their Hokey Pokey is unique though, and pretty decent :-)
New World Windsor import English “Linda McCartney” vegan products. The sausage rolls are vegan, as are several other products in the range.
Just a heads up, the “Quorn” meatfree products below are NOT VEGAN.
Linda McCartney sausage rolls, and Nice Cream “Banana Bean” flavour vegan icecream.
Both are proudly “Vegan” and “Vegan Friendly” :-)
New World Elles Road (in South City)
New World Elles Road (South City) also has a wide variety of vegan goods.
New World Elles Road (South City), Vegan products including tofu from “Bean Supreme. Also, falafel and tahini.
New World Elles Road now has the full range of Angel Food vegan cheese! From the Mozzarella used by Hell Pizza, to new Cheddar, Parmesan, cheesy sauce perfect for macaroni or lasagne……wow! Vegan icecream: So Good soy vanilla, coconut ice cream, and almond ice cream.
Lite Licks (dairy free), in Hokey Pokey and Vanilla.
Vegan frozen goods. The Fry’s range are mostly (all?) vegan, the Quorn version is NOT vegan….yet. Due to extremely high vegan demand worldwide, vegan products from Quorn are on the way :-)
Bean Supreme burgers: the Black Bean and Gourmet Burgers (highly recommended!) are totally vegan, as are the Rosemary sausages.
The Black Eyed Bean kumara burgers are NOT vegan….yet!
Falafel, Tahini, Tofu.
Plantmilks, in Soy, Rice, Oat and Almond. Try Sanitarium’s “So Good” Essential, in the purple carton. It’s smooth, and extremely nutritious: an excellent source of calcium and B12.
Chocolate flavour “So Good” soymilk, Tortillas, Marinated and plain Tofu with my Rescued Hen Friends.
top: Home Hen (once called Hurt Hen before she healed of her wounds) middle: Whole Hen (first two Rescued Hens), bottom: Curious Hen.
To the right, mostly out of view is Geiger Hen. The first two are orange, Home Hen a kind of marmalade, Whole Hen a blazing flame orange, Curious Hen is more coffee and soymilk mixing :-) Geiger is a little darker overall, less light colours.
