Health and Disability Expo 2014

The Invercargill Vegan Society won best stall at the 2014 DRC Health and Disability Expo!  Out of 67 exhibitors, we were judged by Venture Southland’s Angela Newell as being “full of enthusiasm, innovative and bright green with passion for animals” :-)

Held at the Invercargill Workingmen’s Club,  Jordan and Jen spoke to thousands of people during the expo.  We met people on a plant based diet, vegetarians and people really interested in veganism.  Most knew how a vegan felt about harming animals, and many said they had family members who were vegan or vegetarian!   One of the most interesting conversations was with a slaughterhouse worker…..who *also* worked in a vegetarian cafe during the slaughter “off season”!  He currently “leaned towards vegetarian”.  It’s great to get out there and ask people to share their stories, and we were thrilled to win Best Stall at the DRC Health and Disability Expo 2014 :-)

We had “Forks over Knives” playing on our computer, New Zealand Vegan Society magazines, recipes from the weekly Invercargill vegan cooking classes, and information to join our monthly Invercargill Vegan Society potlucks!
